Tawang, Oct 13: Arunachal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Association (AMASA) under the aegis of Ministry of Tourism, GoI NE Regional Office Guwahati organised a Plogging Trek along the Bailey Trail in West Kameng & Tawang districts recently.
The 10-day trek-route-cleaning-drive touching 15000 ft above sea level organised as a part of 'Paryatan Parv' to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was undertaken from October 3-12. It was a 12-member team led by famed mountaineer Dr. Anshu Jamsenpa and comprised of 3 members from Ladakh, 2 from Assam and 7 from Arunachal, the host state. The team was earlier flagged off by Gen Lama Tsering from the Thugchog Gatseling Monastary, Bomdila on October 3 in presence of AMASA President Tsering Wange and 7 high altitude camps namely Chander 8900 ft, Thungri 11900 ft, Changla 13200 ft, Potok 13800 ft, Lurtem 12500 ft. Mago 11500 ft, Tsachu 11000 ft and finally Tawang 10200 ft were covered during the journey. Throughout the Bailey trail, they collected plastic litters and non-biodegradable waste and disposed them in an environmentally friendly way. En route, the team  braved heavy showers as trekking went on continuously in high mountain passes, finally touching the 14927 ft Tse La Pass, the highest point of the trek. Para Military forces stationed along the trail and yak herders staying in small hamlets were inspired by Jamsenpa who also happens to be one of the Brand Ambassadors of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. When asked to comment about the Plogging Trek, Anshu smiled and said that although it’s a newly coined and fancy word, it will inspire trekkers and mountaineers to follow the trend which is good for the environment.
AMASA & Ministry of Tourism extended gratitude to SSB Commandant Rajesh Thakur, EAC Thingbu Pemtan Monpa, CO Tawang, Dechen Dolker, ITBP Inspector Tripathi and Lungten Tsering Dirkhipa of Thembang without whose help and inputs the first Plogging Trek wouldn’t had been possible. AMASA PR
