ITANAGAR, Sep 30: In the wake of allegation of medical negligence levelled against the Heema Hospital, Itanagar leading to the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn twins, the hospital authority today denied any sort of medical negligence and said it is ready to face an investigation.
Addressing the media, Medical Superintendent Heema Hospital, Dr. Kesang Wangdi Thongdok said that the hospital management is ready for any kind of inquiry related to the the unfortunate death of a woman and her unborn twins on Monday.
Dr. Thongdok added that the hospital management has provided possible assistance to the deceased family when they arrived at the hospital around 5.00 am in the morning.
“Even the staff of the hospital had advised the family to take the deceased to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) on their first visit to the hospital,” he said.
Dr. Thongdok informed that a detailed internal enquiry was held on the allegation of medical staff being negligent in the case, as alleged by many on social media. So, there is no point of blaming the hospital management for any kind of negligence, he said.
He said that the family was also briefed that the hospital had no Gynecologist as he was out of station and thus also could not facilitate lab facility.
“Our staff did what they could given the situation. Even the CCTV footage is evidence to it,” he said, adding that the hospital was just performing basic functions as most of its staff were COVID-19 positive. When questioned about the presence of Senior Gynecologist of RK Mission Hospital Dr. Posting Bayang  with whom the victim has been in touch for her health condition,  the Medical Superintendent  clarified that  Dr. Bayang was performing a delivery at the hospital but did not inform any of the staff about it nor there is any written record to it.

“A doctor can perform duty in different hospitals in case of emergency but our medical staff was unaware of Dr. Posting being in the hospital until he (Dr. Posting) picked up the call of one of our medical staff,” he added.
He said that the death might be due to a chain of unfortunate circumstances or maybe error of judgment by the deceased family as they waited for Dr. Posting Bayang for treatment.
Meanwhile, Assistant CMD of Hospital Byabang Heema terming the death of the woman and her twins as very unfortunate also said that blaming the hospital and the staff for negligence and negative comments on social media for their death is uncalled for.
She said that the hospital in various situations and occasions has been in the fore front to help the people. People should stop cursing and accusing the medical staff for the unfortunate death of the woman and her twins, she added.
