DEOMALI, Mar 27:A heavy storm accompanied by heavy rains lashed the sleepy ADC headquarters Deomali last night. Though no casualties have been reported, the storm uprooted trees and damaged several dwelling houses. Power supply lines have also been snapped and it may take some time for electricity to be restored. Many roads have been blocked due to falling of trees.

It may be mentioned here that Deomali is a densely-forested area. The local administration and Police have swung into action.

The Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang who is the local MLA has instructed the ADC to assess the extent of damage caused by the storm for onward submission to the government. He has also asked the Power department, Forest department, PRI leaders and all stakeholders to join hands in restoring normalcy adding that they should not panic. The Minister has assured all possible help and support from his side.

The road between Naharkatia in Assam and Khonsa has been badly affected. Many trees have fallen on the road. The Ramakrishna Mission School at Narottam Nagar has also been hit hard by the storm.
