DOIMUKH, Jul 6: The health department launched the statewide vaccination drive for Rota virus under National Health Mission from Doimukh Community Health Centre here today.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare Alo Libang inaugurating the drive appealed all the parents to take their wards to the nearest health centres for routine immunisation. Stating that government has taken a step towards reducing infant mortality rate in the state, the minister called for coordinated efforts from all the stakeholders.
He also urged the medical officials and workers to work together for a better NITI Aayog ranking.
The vaccine which is part of the routine immunization program in the state has been launched across Arunachal. Private hospitals have also been taken under its ambit for providing the immunisation service.
State Immunization Officer Dr. D Padung informed that the vaccine will be provided free of cost in all government health facilities like hospitals, medical colleges, urban dispensaries, Public Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), sub centers and outreach sites (RI/VHND sessions).
Informing that the vaccine is used to prevent contamination of rotavirus vaccine, Dr Padung said the virus is highly contagious and spreads through the faecal oral route.
He also informed that five drops of rota virus vaccine will be administered to infants at 6, 10 and 14 weeks along with other vaccines. Director Health services Dr. Emi Rumi along with Health and Family Welfare minister had appealed all to spread awareness on the immunisation process so that no infants are left. The minister also asked the medical officials to reach out to the targeted crowd. Newsdesk
