New Delhi, Nov 10: To discuss the significance of integrating skill-based media programmes in formal education introduced in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and for discussing ways in developing easier access routes to formal media education, a 3-day online interaction called ‘Virtual Manthan’ got underway here in the national capital today which will serve as a platform for exchange of ideas by the Chancellors, Vice Chancellors and Department Heads of Central and State universities.
Representing Rajiv Gandhi University, the lone Central university of Arunachal Pradesh, VC Professor Saket Kushwaha while analysing NEP 2020 opined it will also address the goal of creating good human beings. Assuring full cooperation by RGU in reaching the larger goal of academia-industry interface, the VC stated that the varsity’s core strengths in audio-visual documentation as well as research will be perfect supplements to the collaborative initiatives suggested by the media industry. Speaking on the side-lines of the event, he also informed that RGU will initiate the process immediately by organising a planning conference which will chart out a roadmap of collaboration with the media and entertainment industries through Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), New Delhi, the event’s organiser to offer skill-based courses in animation, graphics, gaming, VFX, filmmaking, performing arts etc.
RGU Mass Communication Head, Moji Riba lamented that there is an inexplicable gap between media industry and media education and questions of relevance arise on either side. Calling for a hybrid model of synergies between academia and industry, Moji underscored the need for integrating research with industry and in turn integrating the communication faculty with media.
Vice-Chancellors of various Central universities spoke at length on NEP 2020 and the need for greater collaboration between academia and media and entertainment industries. RGU PR
