ITANAGAR, Feb 9: Capital police arrested one habitual thief and recovered many items including two-wheelers, local ornaments, electronics and others.
The matter came to light when police received an FIR of a robbery on January 25, where local ornaments amounting to four lakhs approximately were stolen from a residence.
Accordingly, case was registered at the Niti Vihar Police station and a team led by SDPO Itanagar Kamdam Sikom was constituted under the close supervision of SP Capital Jimmy Chiram.
Examination of CCTV footage of nearby areas showed a male on a two-wheeler entering the complainant's house. Upon verification, it was found that the Scooty was sold to one Waiter Dada, resident of Sood village, Yupia.
Police subsequently raided his house but Dada was not found. Police then engaged sources with the help of complainant party to trace the absconder. Left with no option, on the night of February 6 last, Dada, 32 surrendered before the police along with the stolen local ornaments.
On further interrogation, he revealed about various other stolen items kept at his hideout and accordingly a police search recovered various stolen properties including four motorcycles, electronics, LPG cylinders etc.
Later, it also came to light that he is a habitual criminal with two cases registered against him at Naharlagun Police station, police said.
