ITANAGAR, Jul 25: The volunteers of Hamara Arunachal Abhiyan (HAA) in coordination with the Capital DA have started distribution of potato packets, each weighing 3 kg and having a current market price of Rs 100 at various sectors and colonies in the ICR from Saturday.
The distribution of subsidised potatoes is the brainchild of Home Minister Bamang Felix and comes under the HAA to support the denizens facing difficulty in procuring basic commodities due to the current lockdown as well as to counter the rising commodity prices.
Deputy Commissioner, Capital Compex Komkar Dulom launched the programme in presence of officials, HAA volunteers, members of the Arunachal Pradesh Marketing Committee (APMC ) and others.
DC said that the decision to distribute potatoes at subsidised rates was taken up after people from various walks of life suggested that under the current situation of extensive lockdowns, the basic essentials for sustenance such as pulses, rice and potatoes should be made available at affordable rates. “Our Home Minister and Chief Minister took note of the public grievances and decided to provide these staple items at affordable prices,” Dulom said, also revealing that the DA has stocked about 25000 kg of potatoes which will be distributed at subsidised rates in various sectors and colonies under the ICR. Each packet contains 3 kg of potatoes priced at Rs 100 which is lower than the price fixed for per kg potato issued earlier to regulate prices, DC added. He also requested the denizens to avail the benefits without compromising the SOPs. The items will be distributed under active supervision of the Magistrate in collaboration with police.
APMC Secretary Dolang Akam said that distribution will continue in the other parts of the capital till stocks are exhausted, also informing that order has been given to replenish the stock immediately before exhaustion.
