Doimukh/Gumto, Oct 2: Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC), Papum Pare,  Chukhu Bablu dedicated the  ‘Free-Wi-Fi’ service to Gumto village under Smart Village initiative on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti here at Gumto, Doimukh today.
Speaking to reporters, the ZPC said "On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who believed in strengthening grassroots democracy and development, we have decided to provide free wi-fi connection to the people of Gumto village. The internet service will not only help the students for online studies but villagers can be updated on benefits of schemes and projects of the government as well as get updates on activities of the Panchayti Raj Institution(PRI) of their area.
No charges will be taken from the villagers on use of the internet, it is fully free, he said.
Further, he also appreciated the state government for the cabinet decision on devolution of power to the Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRI) which was long due.
While attending the event, Circle Officer Gumto- Mumne Borang informed that the initiative to provide free wi-fi will definitely help both students and villagers of Gumto Panchayat.  She also added that, internet facilities will also solve the digital gap between the mainland and villagers.
Moreover, now villagers will get easy access to schemes and projects of the government as well as information on education, health, financial sectors and others, added the CO.
She further, informed that Gram Sabha  of  Gumto Panchayat has been started today under its ‘Peoples Plan Campaign’ for  the preparation of Gram Panchyat  Development  Plan (GPDP).
