ITANAGAR, Sep 24: The Galo Students Union (GSU) president, Mepe Ete has been expelled from the membership of the union for three years and debarred from carrying out any activity in the capacity of president for his involvement in the infamous DJ night event of August 29 at Aalo and other activities that go against the union's constitution. The decision was taken based on the recommendation by the fact-finding committee (FFC) report and following various speakers’ opinions and after thoroughly discussing the FFC’s report.
The meeting was held at Galo Heritage Centre, Tarajuli,  Naharlagun under the chairmanship of General Secretary, GSU,  Deny Boje which was attended by the federal unit of GSU and its advisory board etc.
During the meeting, the house noted the FFC report that there was no risk of community transmission in and around Aalo Township before the DJ night at Humgo Rigo Resort. There were positive cases of returnees mostly paramilitary and few civilians and the total numbers of Covid-19 positive cases was only 14 but after the DJ Nite on August 29, the numbers of positive cases drastically rose to more than 300.
The FFC also reported that, the DJ party was organized in complete violation of the social distancing norms and standard operating procedure set by the government and without taking permission from the district administration thereby putting the whole community at risk.
On August 27, Mepe Ete approached the OC Aalo PS for permission to organize the said event but was denied. However, he intentionally conducted the DJ nite.Besides, Ete sold tickets at the rate of  ₹ 3,000/- and spread a message that, the event was being organized for the union's fund and even collected liquors in the name of GSU, whereas CEM of GSU was not aware of this.
Further deliberation revealed that Ete has never conducted any audit for the expenditure of the one-night cultural show of the Galo Youth Convention, and 1st & 2nd education tour programs whereas the Chief Auditor GSU had approached him many times seeking an audit of expenditures and balance amount.
The house also noted an appointment illegally made by Ete without consultation of Union's GS and violating the article-14 I (a) of the GSU constitution which suggests that vacancy post of the union has to be appointed by the president in consultation with the General Secretary.
