ITANAGAR, Dec 2: To make an assessment of the ground realities after tension flared up along the Arunachal-Assam border in Uli village of Lower Siang, a delegation of the Galo Students' Union (GSU) along with the representatives of Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) and officials of the Lower Siang District Administration visited the spot.
The GSU team was led by its President Dope Ori and Secretary General Deny Boje. The visit was necessitated following the eruption of fresh tension in the border village wherein some miscreants with the help of Assam Police reportedly damaged the boundary fencing of a private land belonging to a resident of Uli village. According to the union, the said piece of land was officially allotted by the Lower Siang DA to one Jumnya Tao and had been under the possession of his family traditionally since time immemorial. The visiting team was informed by the landowner, villagers of Uli and neighbouring Mishing villagers of Laipulia that the land rightfully belonged to the Tao family and there wasn’t any controversy until recently. Besides surveying the entire area physically, the GSU members gathered factual details and later in the day conducted a meeting with the TMPK leaders and CO Kangku to arrive at an early amicable settlement of the dispute.
While assuring to extend its support to the aggrieved family and others of Uli village in future, the GSU team appealed to them to maintain peace and uphold the age-old relations that have existed between the people of the foothills and different communities of Assam.
