AALO, Sep 5: The central executive members of the Galo Students' Union (GSU) besides vehemently condemning the DJ musical nite organized by the Bili Bolo Boys at Humgo Rigo resort here on August 29 last that led to a major rise of Covid-19 cases in the township, has categorically made it clear that the union was in no way involved in it.
Terming the event as “infamous”, GSU through a release has refuted the claim made in social media that its President Mepe Ete was an organizer of the event and has clarified that presence of his mobile number on photo hoarding of the event has resulted in misinterpretation. “The central executive members of the GSU are clarifying that the union is neither involved nor had any knowledge of the DJ nite. If the GSU President's name was in the invitee list then he might have attended it in his individual capacity,” the release read, while condemning the organizer of the event for compromising health scene. “Presence of the GSU President in the event has given birth to many questions which have unfortunately damaged the prestige of the union that has been instrumental in fighting Covid 19,” the release added.
While taking cognizance of the current situation where its President has been projected as an organizer of the DJ nite, the GSU has constituted a Fact Finding Committee under the Chairmanship of its Vice President (Adm.) Takam Hapu comprising seven central executive members (CEMs) to ascertain whether the President GSU was really an organizer of the said event. “The CEMs will initiate strict action against those who have been involved in organisation of the event as per the existing Constitution of the GSU,” the release asserted.
Meanwhile, the union has urged the concerned authorities to strive hard to ensure that all SOPs given by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare are maintained in letter and spirit. It has also appealed to all individuals to adhere to the SOPs and extend help to the administration in containing the pandemic. GSU PR
