ZIRO, Mar 16: The 1st Green Walk Campaign, an initiative of the Hapoli Forest Division for beautification of Lower Subansiri and Kamle districts through planting of ornamental species was launched today at Pechi Putu, known globally as the venue of the annual Ziro music festival.
The All Mudang Dangko Students’ Union and Lyagi Tage Youth Association collaborated with the Hapoli Forest Division in the plantation drive under which around 500 saplings of different species like Cupressus, Cryptomeria, Cedrus Deodara and Thuja were planted. The core idea behind planting the ornamental species unique to the area is to add a special identity to the place and allay fears of farmers that plantations close to WRC fields affect crop output. Moreover, it is expected that plantation of local cherry species, known as Semo will help in attracting tourists in a way the famous cherry blossoms do in Japan.
DFO, Hapoli Forest Division, Abhinav Kumar while lauding the beautification drive informed that the department is ready to provide free saplings with technical assistance as and when required and advised the youths to undertake proper post-plantation nurturing.  DIPRO
