ITANAGAR, June 24: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein viewed a PowerPoint Presentation on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) here on Wednesday which was made by the Department of Public Health Engineering & Water Supply, GoAP.
Urging the department to involve the communities in the programme in a greater way and inculcate a sense of ownership among them, Mein stressed on initiating more awareness on water conservation so as to minimize wastage of water, adding that benefits should percolate down to the last person of society. Chief Engineer, PHE & WS (Eastern Zone), Er Tomo Basar through the PowerPoint Presentation gave the data that out of 217623 households in the state, 36146 have been covered with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) as on April 1, 2020 and the target is to cover the remaining 181477 households.  Among others, PHE & WS Minister Wangki Lowang, Chief Engineer (Western Zone) Er Toko Jyoti and SE Er Kirpa Pertin were present on the occasion.

It needs mentioning that Jal Jeevan Mission is a GoI initiative implemented in partnership with the state governments with the aim of providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household functional tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India and also to provide functional tap connections to public institutions like schools, anganwadi centres, GP buildings, health centres, wellness centres and community buildings.
JJM will be based on the 'community approach to water' model and will include extensive information, education and communication as key components with the larger objective to take it to the level of a jan andolan. DCM Media Cell
