ITANAGAR, Sep 7: The Galo People's Federation (GPF) on Monday met the Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and submitted a representation requesting him to initiate necessary action against the West Siang District Administration for its alleged failure to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the district.
In the representation, the GPF cited various instances in which the DA was allegedly found negligent which includes inaction regarding a request to shift the COVID-19 Check Gate/ Screening Point from its present location at Piyi area to Gabu in a PIL filed by one Reken Ingo, a social activist, and allowing few restaurants and bars to function during the lockdown period.
“Taking quick cognizance of the urgency of the situation, the High Court had directed the Deputy Commissioner, Aalo, for necessary action. However, no action was taken to shift the check gate,” the GPF stated.
The Federation also decried the DA for its statement that it had no idea about the DJ/Cultural Nite organized at Humgo Rigo Resort, Darka, some 2-3kms away from Aalo Town on August 29, post which many revellers tested positive for covid-19.
“The attendance list widely circulated in social media, shows that government employees too had attended the event. The illegal activity was carried out right under the nose of the District Administration, West Siang. Yet, the DC claims to have zero knowledge about what happened under his administrative jurisdiction,” the GPF said, adding that the community spread of covid-19 could have been contained had the administration followed the protocol.
The Federation requested the Chief Secretary to constitute a high-level inquiry committee headed by an officer, not below the rank of Secretary or a Retired High Court Judge to unearth the fact.
It also urged the CS to temporarily suspend the DC and SP West Siang invoking relevant provision/s under the Disaster Management Act 2005 and Negligence of Duty under the provision of law in the interest of justice till the pendency of the inquiry.
