ITANAGAR, Jun 25:Countering the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee’s accusation that the state government discontinued the popular Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Universal Health Insurance Scheme (APCMUHIS), Health & Family Welfare Minister, Jomde Kena clarified that the present government instead had tried its best to revive the scheme but defects inherent in the scheme proved a hindrance.

‘Though it is a scheme of public interest, it seems to have been launched in a hurry with no concrete and sustainable long term plans. When the present government took over, it was found that APCMUHIS was having lots of lacunae,’ Kena said in a press statement today.

He further disclosed that to resolve all these issues, the present government under Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has constituted a Technical Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. Mohesh Chai (Minister AH & Veterinary) to study the problems facing the scheme and make appropriate recommendations for making it more hassle free and vibrant.
The said Committee had identified many problems & deficiencies in the scheme and submitted their recommendations for improving the scheme. The team had even toured many different states to study the successfulness of such Health insurance schemes which could be replicated in our state. Accordingly, based on the recommendations, the government is presently in the process of restructuring the scheme in the shortest possible time to make it more comprehensive, patient friendly and also for making it more sustainable in the long run. Therefore, there is no question of discontinuation of the scheme as alleged in the news item, the Health Minister said while assuring the people of the government’s commitment towards improving the health delivery system.
