ITANAGAR, Jan 4: Governor (Dr.) B.D. Mishra undertook a whirlwind tour to Namsai and Lohit districts on January 3 last during which he interacted with local people, army personnel as well as paid visit to the holy Parasuram Kund.
Interacting with farmers, horticulturists, Gaon Burahs and local weavers of Namsai district accompanied by the HoDs, Governor highlighted the importance of ‘Startup Entrepreneurship’ for bringing economic growth and prosperity in the district and state and for ensuring farmers’ empowerment. Impressed by the highly educated progressive farmers who have ventured into agriculture and allied sectors, he reiterated that youths of the state must change their attitude from ‘job seeking’ to ‘Startup’ with entrepreneurship, agriculture and allied sectors having wide scope. Advising government officials to reach out to the people and assist farmers and Self Help Groups in  their projects, he added that with cooperation and sincerity Namsai’s ranking as an ‘Aspirational District’ can improve. Emphasising on preservation and promotion of traditional textiles and handlooms, Governor urged the educated girls and housewives to practice and promote this age-old craft. 
Recalling her own initiative in promotion of traditional looms, First Lady Neelam Misra encouraged the womenfolk to take lead in reviving the age-old handicraft traditions and distributed yarns to five meritorious traditional weavers of the district on the occasion.
Earlier, Namsai District Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bijoy Talukdar briefed the Governor about the developmental activities of the district and highlighted the initiatives under ‘Aspirational District’ programmes, particularly the Mid-Day Meal scheme, health and education  etc.  
Continuing with his tour, Governor interacted with the Indian Army troops of 20 Madras Battalion Headquarters in a Sainik Sammelan at Chowkham in Lohit on the same day and commended their exemplary bravery, discipline and camaraderie.
Reminding officers and troops the Madras Regiment’s motto of ‘Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha (It is a glory to die doing one’s duty), Governor said that physical fitness, training and operational management of the regiment have been one of the best attributes amongst all regiments of the Indian Army and exhorted them to maintain the combat spirit to ensure the best defence for borders. He also urged the troops to strengthen bonhomie with local population. 
General Officer Commanding of 2 Mountain Division and Brigadier Major General Sanjeev Chauhan, Commander 82 Mountain Brigade Sajeev Kataria,  Commanding Officer of 20 Madras Col. PA Parthasaradi Pathrudu were present during the visit.
As a part of his Lohit visit, Governor visited  Parasuram Kund, the popular pilgrimage site near Wakro with the aim of assessing the infrastructural amenities and convenience of pilgrims.
Accompanied by Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and Chief Engineer PWD (Design & Planning) Atop Lego, he inspected the entire complex and surveyed the holy site climbing the uneven steep 450 steps up and down each way. 
While asking for improving the steps leading to the ‘Kund’ for elderly pilgrims, Governor directed for bringing better services and ensuring safe and suitable accommodation for visitors, also underscoring the need to add innovative measures for making the trip to the holy site more easy and comfortable.
Sharing his ideas for improving the site as a tourist destination with the district officials, he said that efforts must be put in to preserve, protect and promote it for boosting the local economy. PRO Raj Bhavan
