Itanagar, Nov 12: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) today visited the Regional Mental Hospital at Midpu located 22 km away from the state capital and interacted with the medical officers and inmates.
Emphasizing that there should be concerted efforts by all concerned for the well-being, early treatment and rehabilitation of inmates, Governor also said that administrative facility, manpower and management must be improved in the hospital. Along with the officers, he toured the wards and office complex of the health facility. Local MLA Tana Hali Tara, officials of Papum Pare District Administration and Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences were present on the occasion. Governor suggested for keeping the inmates engaged through skill development programmes and hobby pursuits and advised the officials for involving NGOs to work amongst the psychiatric patients. Psychiatrists Dr. Hanya Payee and Dr. Arti Namchoom briefed the Governor about the hospital.
It can be recalled that the Mental Hospital was sanctioned in 1989 and was completed and handed over to the Health Department in 2014.
At the initiative of the then Chief Minister Late Kalikho Pul, the facility started functioning in 2016. PRO Raj Bhavan
