ITANAGAR, Aug 28: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, General (Retd.) V.K. Singh today called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) here at Raj Bhavan to discuss issues regarding road construction in the state.
Governor apprised the Union Minister of the need for large scale investments for construction of roads in the state’s hinterland for bringing holistic development. He reiterated that Arunachal requires roads for instilling a sense of security and fostering nationalism amongst the populace inhabiting in the remote and far-flung areas and requested for central technical assistance and fund for the purpose. Governor, while highlighting the state’s tourism and agriculture potential, said that socio-economic development of its people particularly the agrarian community and horticulturist entrepreneurs depends, inter alia, on the availability of good roads. It is the prime need for the welfare of the people which inherently adds to national security and progress, he stressed. Governor shared his experience of touring all the 25 districts of the State, mostly by road and remarked that road projects must be planned for long term use with due emphasis on sustainability and robustness by prioritising modern technologies above the conventional methods. Important roads and bridges which are currently under construction and their need for speedy completion were highlighted by the Governor. He also made special mention of the four laning of the Itanagar-Banderdewa NH 415, which needs an expedited completion.
