KHONSA, Aug 31:Governor PB Acharya in the final leg of his four-day three districts tour of Tirap, Longding and Changlang laid the foundation stone for a double lane RCC bridge over River Tirap at Changlang today. Parliamentary Secretaries Phusum Khimhum, Tesam Pongte, and Laisam Simai, Deputy Commissioner W. Khimhum and SP Amit Sharma were present on the occasion amongst others.

The Governor expressed hope that the bridge will facilitate in economic growth of the area.

Er. Khoda Gyati, Executive Engineer, PWD, Changlang informed that the bridge will be constructed at a cost of Rupees Twelve Crore.

Earlier on the day, the Governor visited the District Hospital, Changlang and distributed fruits to the indoor patients.

The Governor, who is National Brand Ambassador (Nav Ratna) for Swachh Bharat Mission participated in a cleanliness drive in the hospital premises organised by the Department of PHED, Changlang. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor called upon the people to be the soldiers and agents of the cleanliness movement. He said that cleanliness and good health are two faces of a coin.

The Governor pointed that when Indians go out of country, they are very discipline but when they are in their own country, they are do not care. It is because, there is no fear of law. He stressed that those who don’t care about their environment must be strictly dealt with. 

The Governor emphasised on public toilets and called upon the public representatives of the District and District Administration to construct it at the earliest. 

Continuing his effort to reach out to the students, the Governor visited the Government Higher Secondary School, Changlang. He launched the Smart Class programme on the occasion.

The Governor exhorted the students to prepare themselves for the challenges ahead. He said that the foundation for a prosperous society is education.

The Governor visited the District Jail, Changlang on this final leg. Interacting with the jail officials, the Governor advised them to expedite the cases especially civil cases.

‘Special effort must be there for those who are in the jail for long period,’ he said and asked the district authorities to provide games and entertainment items for prisoners. 

The Governor also suggested few corrective measures.

The Governor, who is also the Chairman of State Ex-Servicemen Association, met the ex-servicemen of the district. He also met the senior citizens, members from business community, headmasters and principals of private educational institutions.

In the morning, the Governor offered prayers in the Rangfra Temple in the Changlang Township led by Lafsam Khimhum, Rangsama (Priest). He emphasised that they uphold the indigenous religious culture. 

Later, the Governor returned to Itanagar. He will be gracing the Solung Festival celebration as chief guest at Itanagar on September 1.
