ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has extended warm greetings to the people of the State and to the tribal communities all over the country, on the special occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He expressed hope that the occasion will inspire all to rise against injustice, corruption and inequality.
In his message, the Governor said that Bhagwan Birsa Munda was a great freedom fighter, a people’s leader and a regional hero from the Munda Tribe of the Chhota Nagpur Plateau area. He fought for the rights of the tribal people and strived for preservation of tribal faith, culture and traditions. Birsa Munda encouraged his followers to get back to their tribal roots and follow their traditions, he said. The Governor said that Janjatiya Gaurav Divas aims to honour brave tribal freedom fighters and make the youth aware of their sacrifices. It also endeavours to recognise the efforts of tribal people in preservation of cultural heritage along with highlighting welfare measures taken up by the Union and State Governments for the tribal communities in education, health, livelihood, infrastructures and skill development. I am sanguine that this occasion will be a harbinger of new policies and welfare activities for our tribal communities, he said.
The Arunachal Vikas Parishad stated that the decision is remarkable and significant for the entire tribal community of the country. The decision of the government is not merely to honour Birsa Munda, but is equally significant in paying respect to the freedom fighters including Rani Gaidinliu, V. N. Singh, A. S. Ram Raju, Tantya Bhool, Tirat Singh, and many others who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation.
It is a big achievement of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram who has tirelessly worked for the recognition of the Janjati freedom fighters for last many years. Finally, continuous efforts and hard work paid off, the AVP said adding that it will celebrate Janjati Gaurav Diwas on November 15 in the state.
