ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Governor BD Mishra and First Lady Neelam Misra celebrated Rakshabandhan with traditional fervour and gaiety with school students and social organisations of the Capital Complex at Raj Bhavan here today. The school children and members of the NGOs tied Rakhi to the Governor, First Lady of the State and Raj Bhavan officials and exchanged greetings.
Interacting with the children and visitors, the Governor highlighted the importance of ‘Rakshabandhan’ which symbolizes a sacred social ‘bond of protection'. He said that the noble traditional duty of protection, of the sisters by the brothers and, in equal terms, protection of the womenfolk by the men, with brotherly emotions, is unique to the Indian culture. It is a gift to the world by the Indian civilization.
The Governor exhorted the children and members of social organizations to promote and propagate messages of peace and harmony amongst all sections  of society, which he underscored as the prerequisite for development and prosperity of the State and its people.
Later the Governor hosted a high tea for the students and others.
Earlier, Neelam Misra celebrated the festive occasion with children of Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu, Itanagar in their school campus. The inmates of the only residential school for differently abled children tied Rakhi to the First Lady and exchanged greetings.
The differently abled children presented a colourful cultural programme, while H. Sharma, Principal, Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired briefed about the school and its achievements.
