ITANAGAR, Oct 14: Governor BD Mishra along with the First Lady of the State, Neelam Misra attended the 36th Sharodiya Durga Puja celebration at Kali Mandir, P-sector, Itanagar today.
The Governor unveiled the Murthi (Idol) of Goddess Durga and lighted the traditional lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the main asset of festivals is wellbeing of all, including the flora and fauna. The rituals and traditions embody positivity, knowledge, creativity and goodwill. Therefore, the customs and devotional rituals must be preserved, practiced and propagated, the Governor emphasised.
Appreciating the devotion of the people, the Governor recalled the Durga puja  he attended in his native place 68 years ago. He advised all to continue the pursuit of one’s own cultural heritage and ethical practices.
Swami Partho Shastro, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Itanagar Centre also spoke on the occasion. Guest artist Ramanuj Dasgupta, accompanied by expert Tabla player Sunayana Ghosh and musician Sukhendu Shekhar Das from Kolkata, rendered melodious ‘Bhajan’ at the function.
Organised by Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Itanagar and Rajdhani Sarbojanin Puja Committee, large number of people from all walks of life attended the programme.
