ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) felicitated the Dirang based National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) members who achieved the remarkable feat of scaling the 6,060 meters Mount Kangto-6.
Congratulating the 31-member team for their success, Governor exhorted them to strive for the better and at the same time maintain discipline and attributes as an achiever and become exemplary citizens.He said that NIMAS has been befittingly rising to its purpose by training and producing world-class mountaineers and commended their officials and instructors besides exhorting them to take the institute to greater heights. He further suggested to enlarge its trainee intake capacity by admitting troops from the southern states. While sharing his experience in the Himalayan mountains, Governor advised the mountaineers to ensure that no degradation is caused to the environment by littering of one-time-use plastic bags etc. during expeditions and asked them to send this cleanliness message to the local population and fellow climbers also.
Earlier, NIMAS Director, Col Sarfraz Singh briefed the Governor about Mt. Kangto-6 expedition which was spread over September 26, 27 & 28 and water rafting expeditions. Elaborating on the conquest, he said that besides three officers, three Junior Commission Officers and twelve other ranks from Indian Army, thirteen civilians including ten from Dirang in West Kameng district of the state, one from Assam and two students from other parts of the country took part.
