ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) expressed concern about militancy and nefarious elements dealing with drugs in the Eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh and asked the Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair, AVSM, YSM to put in his best, to tackle the two menaces when the latter made a courtesy call at Raj Bhavan today.
The Governor appreciated the role of the Assam Rifles, the oldest Paramilitary Force of India, popularly known as ‘Sentinels of the North East’. He asked the Director General of the Assam Rifles (DG AR) to continue to uphold the highest traditions of the Force in the service of the people of the Nation and the people of North East region in particular.
He advised the DG AR to wholeheartedly focus on effective coordination with State Police in dealing with the anti national and anti social elements and their nefarious activities.
The Governor asked the DG AR to direct enhanced recruitment of the youth from Arunachal Pradesh in the Assam Rifles. The sons of the soil will be more effective in guarding our borders, the Governor said.
The Director General of Assam Rifles briefed the Governor about certain pressing pending issues and various initiatives and programmes taken up by the Force for the safety, security and wellbeing of the area and the local populace.
