Rono Hills, Feb 4: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today while participating in the 37th Foundation Day celebration of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here at the varsity campus, urged the RGU fraternity to aim for taking the lone Central University of the state to the stature of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Northeast.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor said Foundation Day is an occasion for introspection of the present status and make plans for future and advised the university fraternity to identify specific areas needing attention in a planned manner with optimum utilization of resources. He urged upon the management, faculty and students to preserve, protect and promote the ideals for which RGU was established and advised the research scholars to focus on academic paper publication, presentation and participation in academic symposia and innovations. Be disciplined, inculcate sense of belonging and ambition, deliver social responsibilities, involve in health and educational campaigns, take part in games & sports to remain mentally and physically fit- was his message to the students.
Governor underscored that students must not run after jobs but take up ‘Start up’ scheme and become entrepreneurs themselves. Addressing the faculty members and management, he advised them to take extra steps to enhance the quality of teaching and personality development of students with farsightedness for long-term benefits.
Governor, who is also RGU’s Chief Rector presented awards to the exceptional student achievers. Recipients in this category were Heli Tana Tara, Karling Venia, Pakpo Hina, Likha Yari, Nepo Tamut, Minam Goi, Gami Bogo, Lombi Dakpe, Marge Kamyi, Mini Meto, Bharat Gyadi, Raja Basumotary, Azad Tapak, Dari Laknia, Paresh Sharma, Bamo Tanang, Rukenso Tega, Tali Taba, Soang Yumi, Rubu Lombi and Sum Tateh. He also presented Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Employees for 2019-20 which was won by Kurian Thomas, Alaka Chowlu Patowari, Kenyom Kadu, Chatraman Chetry, Raju Jamoh, Sanjay Roy, Gyan Bahadur Rai, Ishok Das Munda and Sarat Konwar.
Former VC of RGU, Professor Tamo Mibang delivered the Foundation Day lecture. RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha, Pro VC, Professor Amitava Mitra and Registrar Professor Tomo Riba also spoke on the occasion. A cultural programme by RGU’s Department of Music was presented on the occasion. Guests and invitees included ballet artist and art choreographer from USA Amy Dawin, GBs, students’ parents, deans, employees and department heads. PRO Raj Bhavan
