Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today in a virtual interaction with Everesters Tashi Yangjom and Tagit Sorang from Raj Bhavan urged them to contribute in the fight against the two most pressing problems faced by Arunachal Pradesh-drug menace and alcoholism.
Being the praiseworthy Everest conquerors and icons of the state’s youths, you must work tirelessly against these two challenges, the Governor exhorted the duo while congratulating them for making the state proud with their mountaineering feat. Seeking suo moto involvement in youth motivation programmes relating to sports and important social causes, the Governor asked them to infuse the spirit of entrepreneurship among the state’s students and youths. “The need of the hour is that the young people must work hard in the fields of their choice, be industrious, disciplined and contribute positively towards the welfare of society,” the Governor stated. Making his observation on the current Covid situation, the Governor advised Yangjom and Sorang to extend a helping hand to the state government in the fight against the pandemic by encouraging people to strictly follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour and get vaccinated at the earliest.
Both Tashi Yangjom and Tagit Sorang conquered Mount Everest in May this year. While Yangjom achieved the feat on May 11 to become the first India woman to reach the summit in the current season, Sorang scaled the world’s highest peak on May 31. PRO Raj Bhavan
