RONO HILLS, Feb 2: Rajiv Gandhi University, the lone central university in the state will celebrate its 38th Foundation Day here at the campus on February 4 wherein Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) who is also the varsity’s Chief Rector will preside in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu as chief guest.
The celebration will incorporate unveiling of university signage and laying of the foundation stone of Students’ Activity Centre by the Chief Minister and the rostrum and viewing gallery of RGU’s sports arena by the Governor. The newly revamped ‘Wall of Heroes’ will also be unveiled by the Governor. A special felicitation programme for the varsity's health centre personnel who played an important role during Covid pandemic, retiring employees and Team RGU who participated in 72th Republic Day celebrations will also be organized. A preview of the documentary ‘RGU-Memories and Dreams’ will be screened on the occasion. The Foundation Day lecture will be delivered by Vice-Chancellor, North-Eastern Hill University Professor S.K. Srivastava. RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha accompanied by Pro-VC Amitava Mitra and Registrar Dr. NT Rikam took stock of the ongoing preparations on Tuesday.

The foundation stone for RGU, then known as Arunachal University was laid by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on February 4, 1984. It started with only 3 departments, 49 students and 18 faculty members and received a full Central University status on April 9, 2007.
