ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have greeted the people on occasion of Tamladu, one of the oldest indigenous festivals celebrated by the Mishmi community annually on February 15.
In his message, the Governor said “May our prayers invoke the blessings of the Almighty Lord Jebmalu and protect us from all harm and damages. May the Tamladu festival bring peace, progress, prosperity and happiness to all of us.”
Expressing his concern about the threat of Covid Pandemic, the Governor called for people’s cooperation in checking the deadly infection. He advised the people to observe the festival at home and eschew mass congregations. For the safety and wellbeing of our fellow citizens, let us follow the anti COVID protocols of wearing masks, social distancing and frequent washing of hands, he said.
In a message this evening, Khandu said the colorful festival is a public display of the religious, social and supernatural beliefs of the Mishmis akin to all indigenous tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Ours is a distinct state with so many indigenous communities living in close proximity since centuries following different traditions and customs, which inherent close similarities. Tamladu is one such tradition,” he said.
Khandu congratulated the Mishmis for keeping alive their rich cultural heritage through celebration of their indigenous festivals with customary fervor.
“I offer my prayers to the God of Water and God of Earth to save our villages from natural calamities and bless us with good health, good harvest and a prosperous life,” Khandu added.
