ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have conveyed their greetings on the auspicious occasion of Chalo Loku, the most important agricultural festival of the Noctes.
The Governor, in his message said that celebration of festivals is a human instinct. This preserves the rich traditions and promotes the cultural heritage passed on by our forebearers. Festivities are also instrumental in carrying forward the vibrant and rich customs and rituals of the tribal communities. I trust that the lively colourful dances during Chalo Loku with the beating of ‘Tham’ and joyful get-together exhibiting the tribe's vivacious history, which have been zealously kept active from time immemorial by the community, will continue to delight the people of the region, he said.
On this auspicious occasion, I join my Nocte brethren in offering prayer to Almighty Rang for socio-economic and physical well being of all, the Governor said in his message.
Joining the Noctes, one of the most vibrant major tribes of the state, in celebrating the end of harvest, CM Khandu bade farewell to the outgoing season and prayed the Almighty to bestow a better harvest next year.
“Chalo Loku is as colourful as the Noctes, who have been blessed by Mother Nature with her bounty. While thanking the Almighty for a bountiful harvest this season, I join my Nocte brethren in offering prayers for a better season next year,” he said in a message this evening.
Khandu appreciated the Noctes for celebrating Loku every year with traditional fervor not only in their villages but also at places across the state and country wherever they have a sizeable presence. He said, this proved their respect and attachment with their roots.
