ITANAGAR, May 6: Governor Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have wished the people of the state and the Buddhist brethren in particular on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima.
Governor in his message while mentioning the importance of Lord Buddha’s teachings leading to the path of right conduct, non-violence, tolerance and universal brotherhood, expressed hope the occasion will continue to spread the message of love, peace and communal harmony among people. “On this auspicious occasion, I pray for Lord Buddha’s choicest blessings for each one of us,” his message read.
Extending his greetings to the state’s people, the Chief Minister who is a devout Buddhist himself said Buddha Jayanti is always an important day in the lives of Buddhists and Buddha Purnima holds specific importance as it falls on the holy full moon day. He called upon people, irrespective of religious affiliations, to reflect on Lord Buddha’s teachings of compassion, peace and honesty that are losing out to modern day’s materialistic cravings.
“May the full moon of Buddha Purnima dispel the darkness of ignorance, bigotry and hatred and herald an era of contentment, peace and enlightenment for the world” his message said.
