ITANAGAR, May 7: On the occasion of World Red Cross Day which commemorates the birth anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross movement, Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have extended their good wishes to the people of the state in general and all Red Cross volunteers in particular.
Governor, while elaborating on the role played by Red Cross Society in relieving pain and distress of people under various circumstances including wars, expressed hope the occasion will motivate people to become Red Cross members.
“As the President of Indian Red Cross Society of Arunachal Pradesh State Branch, I am proud that our volunteers have taken the initiative of helping people to fight and prevent the coronavirus pandemic. They have organised blood donation camps and awareness campaigns and I am sanguine that these volunteers will continue to render yeoman services to the needy and less privileged people,” his message read.
Governor has also appealed the people of the state to voluntarily donate blood and save lives at this hour of crisis due to the pandemic and has called upon the Red Cross volunteers to guide people on social distancing and preventive aspects of the deadly virus.
Chief Minister, while extending his wishes recalled the seven fundamental principles of World Red Cross Day which are impartiality, humanity, independence, neutrality, voluntary service, universality and unity. “These principles can be viewed today as the foundation of our war against Covid-19,” his message said.
“On this special day while I salute and pay tribute to those in the Red Cross who sacrificed their lives serving humanity in conflict zones, I do the same to all the Covid-19 frontline warriors,” his message added. PRO Raj Bhavan, CMO
