ITANAGAR, Nov 3: Governor BD Mishra today attended the valedictory function of the two-week long training programme titled, ‘Adapting to Climate Change - A Focus on Biodiversity in the Eastern Himalayas’ at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh. The Governor gave away the Participation Certificates to the trainees and released the training manual of ATREE-RGU Autumn School Programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that Mother Earth is benevolent, bountiful, beautiful and without bias. It provides food and shelter to all, if used properly but if misused calamities follow. With growing population pressure on earth, unlimited exploitation of resources, the fine balance of nature is disturbed and the world  community must put it right, he said.
The Governor emphasised that positive human management to preserve biodiversity is the need of the hour. All laws, rules and actions initiated should be in the interest of the people and the nation.
Recalling the Indian cultural heritage towards flora and fauna, the Governor called for unified effort of world community in conservation and protection of natural environment.
The Governor complemented the Vice Chancellor, RGU, Botany Department, ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) Bangalore for effectively conducting the training programme, which he said is very important for the present scenario of world environment.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha,Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Dr. Sarala Khaling, Regional Director, ATREE, Gangtok, Dr. Soubadar Devy, Fellow, ATREE, Bangalore and Dr. Hui Tag, Head of Department of Botany, RGU and Training Coordinator of Autumn School Programme also spoke on the occasion, which was attended by Prof. Tamo Mibang, advisor, ATREE-RGU Autumn School Programme and former Vice Chancellor and Dr. Tomo Riba, Registrar, RGU among others .
Research and PhD scholars from the North Eastern region including research scholars from RGU attended the programme.  
Faculty members from North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli, National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh and G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development, Itanagar also attended the function.
