ITANAGAR, Sep 4: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today visited some parts of the state capital to have a first-hand assessment of the current cleanliness quotient.
Accompanied by concerned officers and Self Help Groups engaged in cleanliness activities, Governor visited the colony areas, main road and parking spots. He directed the officials and NGOs to put in a concerted effort to make the capital area and other parts of the state cleaner, neater and plastic-free. He said that it should be a joint effort to change the public mindset to realise the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of a Clean India. Governor, who personally carried out a month-long cleanliness drive in all the 30 wards of capital last year, appealed the people to join hands to ensure total cleanliness. In the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Governor reiterated the necessity of a holistic plan for the disposal of the solid wastes and emphasised on proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes at originating points.
Meanwhile, in continuation with the nationwide campaign of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to make Anjaw a district free from hazardous polythene and plastic bags, District Magistrate-cum-DC Dagbom Riba issued an Executive Order to prohibit selling of polythene plastic bags on September 3 last.
“Plastic and polythene bags are non-biodegradable which are adversely affecting health and pristine environment of the district. All shopkeepers, businessmen and other related establishments are given a 7-day time from issue of order to eliminate use of such bags else the materials would be seized/destroyed and violators shall be prosecuted under section 188 IPC and penalized accordingly. They should use paper bags or bio-degradable carry bags,” the order read.
EAC cum Executive Magistrate Hawai S Billai has been authorized to execute the order at Hawai, Walong and Kibitho with the help of police and support staff and submit fortnightly reports.
Simultaneously, CO-cum-Executive Magistrate Hayuliang has also been authorized to execute the order at Hayuliang, Khupa, Swami Camp, Manchal, Goiliang, Metaliang and Chaglagam areas with immediate effect and submit reports likewise. PRO Raj Bhavan, Newsdesk
