KOLKATA, Dec 16: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) who was on a three-day official visit to Kolkata visited the Arunachal Bhavan here on December 14 last.
Interacting with the officials and staff of the Bhavan, Governor advised them to facilitate inflow of tourists to Arunachal and showcase its best indigenous handlooms and handicrafts. He also asked them to assist people coming to Kolkata from the state for medical, official and educational purposes and act as facilitators for transiting people at Kolkata from the state with emphasis on their safety, security and well-being. While the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the Bhavan were found to be good, Governor directed the officials to improve the beds and toilets and refurbish the dormitories. Accompanied by Deputy Resident Commissioner S. Nath, he was conducted around the Bhavan and also visited the tourism office and state emporium located in the building.
Later in the day, he met the Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar at Raj Bhavan.
As a part of his Kolkata visit, Governor also participated in the inaugural function of the three-day ‘Vijay Diwas’ at Fort Williams, Eastern Command Headquarters on December 14 which was attended by the ‘Mukti Jodhas’ of Bangladesh, senior dignitaries including former Chief of Army Staff and the valiant officers and men who participated in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Later during a get-together at Senapati House in Fort Williams, Governor recalled the valour of the Indian Armed Forces in the liberation of Bangladesh and shared his war experiences recalling how Indian troops displayed utmost discipline and compassion towards the helpless women victimised by the barbaric Pakistani Army. Indian Army also treated over 93000 Prisoners of War (POWs) with spirit of humanism as per provisions of the Geneva Convention, he said. Governor urged the serving officers and personnel to keep up their courage, chivalry and sense of patriotism in service of the nation.
