ITANAGAR, Dec 4: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today held a meeting with the delegates from Ministry of Power, Government of India and officials from hydropower developer to discuss on the status of hydropower in Arunachal in presence of Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia and MLA Balo Raja.
The Ministry of Power was represented by Secretary Sanjeev Nandan Sahai and Joint Secretary (Hydropower) Tanmay Kumar. Also present were CMD NHPC AK Singh, CMD PowerGrid K Sreekant and CMD NEEPCO VK Singh.
The meeting discussed on 2000MW Lower Siang HEP, 600MW Kameng HEP and proposed dams in Siang and Dibang rivers. It felt that trust of the affected people must be won and good rehabilitation packages assured.
The meeting also discussed on developing small hydropower in the state for it would have minimal environmental impact, could be completed in lesser time and involve lesser cost. To harness the potential of small dams, the meeting felt that it must be supported by robust infrastructure of transmission lines.
The meeting raised concern over Arunachal being deprived of external fundings that could have helped develop big infrastructures in the state. It also discussed the issue of land compensation and on allaying fears of local people towards dams.
