ITANAGAR, Jul 27: Director, Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) Dr. Moji Jini on Monday said that citizens have to shoulder responsibility equally like healthcare workers and frontline Covid fighters, if the pandemic is to be defeated in the state.
Speaking to the reporters through a virtual press conference, Dr. Jini said that unless strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained, the virus will continue to spread. He reiterated that wearing mask, social distancing, cleaning hands and observing other protocols are necessary for earning the ‘zero infection’ status for the state.
“The virus does not spread until it finds a host to multiply. Therefore, cooperating with the health and frontline workers and following the SOPs are the only ways to ensure greater safety for the state’s people,” he said.
Dr. Jini also stated that further lockdowns will not be necessary if the citizens behave in a responsible manner, adding however that even if the state manages to contain the spread of the pandemic to 100%, chances of resurfacing cannot be ruled out. “We can’t stop people from entering the state even if we achieve a 100% virus-free status as there will be someone coming from other states or other countries,” the TRIHMS Director warned, informing that 11 health workers from the TRIHMS were detected positive, among which 3 are symptomatic.
“Despite the prevailing critical situation, doctors and nurses are devoted in the fight against the pandemic,” he assured.
