ITANAGAR, Oct 25: For immediate economic recovery after  COVID-19, the Centre has probably hiked the prices of fuel. However as the economic condition of the country comes to normalcy it will be reduced, said  Member of Parliament ( Lok Sabha) Arunachal East, Tapir Gao.
While speaking to the media, Gao further stated that the hike in fuel prices is due to the high state tax. With only central tax, the price of petrol would probably be Rs 60-70 but due to high state tax, the price of fuel is touching Rs.100 per litre or more. However, he claimed that Arunachal Pradesh has the lowest state tax of 12 % in comparison to other states.
Gao, also informed that Petrol & Diesel are outside the purview  of GST and if every state agreed to bring Petrol and Diesel and other petroleum products under GST, the prices of fuel will definitely come down.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman have already suggested bringing Petrol under GST. BJP ruled states have supported the decision but other states have not yet accepted and as per rule two-thirds (2/3) majority is needed to bring any product under GST," added the MP.
In the coming winter Parliament session government will definitely disclose the reason behind the hike in fuel prices. Moreover, we should also know that due to COVID, the country had faced economic difficulty like other countries, so tax collected from various products is being used for developing  Oxygen plants, COVID Vaccine and other infrastructure, asserted Gao.
