DIBRUGARH, Jun 3: Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh has initiated a campaign titled ‘Friends of Arunachal’ with the aim of strengthening the bond between the state with Assam, all Northeast states and rest of India through tourism.
The campaign was launched here on Sunday evening in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association(APTOA), Nature’s Beacon, Assam Archana Sikitchalaya Sahitya Chara and Association for Conservation(ACT) involving various tourism stakeholders of Assam, national and international level leaders of civil society organizations and senior professors & doctors of universities & colleges. It will be touring several small and big cities & towns of the country.
Assistant Director Tourism, Bengia Manna Sonam said that the campaign will give a platform to exchange culture, knowledge and ideas thereby boosting the newly formed rural tourism destinations and homestay movement in Arunachal Pradesh. Stating that the state has huge scope of community based rural and eco-tourism, Sonam appealed all the participants to come forward and help making Arunachal the best sustainable tourism destination.
APTOA President, John Panye informed that the state has many things to offer to the visiting tourists in the form of adventure tourism, religious tourism, eco-tourism etc. and emphasised on creating synergy between Arunachal and Assam for mutual benefit. The association’s General Secretary, Bengia Mrinal said that they always strive to promote tourism in state in collaboration with the department. Dibrugarh based writer and environmentalist, Soumyadeep Datta said there is a close relation between Assam and Arunachal since time immemorial and the civil society has to gear up to strengthen the bonding between the two states.
