BOMDILA, Oct 19: Minister, Health & Family Welfare, SJETA and WCD Alo Libang today visited the Community Health Centre Bhalukpong and the District Hospital here to take stock of the current COVID situation in West Kameng district and the medical requirements necessary to face the pandemic.
The Minister along with the Bhalukpong MLA Kumsi Sidisow visited the CHC and interacted with the staff and health officials and enquired about the requirements. Later, he also inspected the construction site of the new building of the District Hospital. “Since the pandemic’s outbreak it was my target to visit all district hospitals to see the on-ground COVID situation and discuss the grievances of health warriors,” Libang said, informing that he had already covered most of Eastern Arunachal and now will embark on a Western Arunachal whirlwind tour.
“Infrastructure development in every district is progressing but there are some common issues like shortage of manpower in almost all hospitals.

To solve the issue, although the APPSC has recently recruited more than 120 doctors of different specializations, there are unfilled vacancies in which recruitment is needed. So the state government will initiate a fresh recruitment process for appointing doctors and other healthcare staff in the health department,” the Health Minister informed.
When asked about the issues faced by the District Hospital, District Medical Officer West Kameng Dr. Dondu Wange said that as of now the hospital has only three specialists- Pathologist, Gynaecologist and a Surgeon, whereas the actual need is for at least an Anaesthesiologist, three GDMOs and two lab technicians to solve the manpower shortage to some extent. The DMO also expressed concern over the lack of ambulance facility in the hospital. “We have only two ambulances, one is engaged for COVID duty and the remaining for general duty and we need at least two more,” he added.
Earlier, the Health Minister conducted a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Karma Lekhi, ADC Bomdila Sang Khandu and officials of the Department of Social Justice Empowerment & Tribal Affairs and Women & Child Welfare Department. During the meeting, the members expressed concern over the defunct Aganwadi centres in the district and highlighted the shortage of staff in the Department of SJETA.
