ITANAGAR, Oct 30: Apex Tani Foundation (APTAFO), an NGO active for the welfare of Tani community has expressed its concern over the recent torching of houses belonging to Tani people at Mabira village in Namsai district.
Torching is not ultimate panacea to any ethnic issue and the incident is not expected in Namsai district which is known as a peace loving place and an archetype of a Mini India with all tribes, whether tribal or non-tribal living peacefully, APTAFO said in its release. But the way Mabira village has been made a soft target is not at all warranted and such kind of unruly act should be condemned by all sections of civil society, it added. We vehemently protest such act of savagery meted out to Tani people and if there are issues such as encroachment of forest lands etc, concerned authorities should have evicted them as per procedure established by law and not by deploying hooligans, the release said.
It has appealed the concern authority to immediately locate the offenders trying to create disharmony among native people and give stringent punishment along with immediate compensation to the victims. APTAFO PR
