ITANAGAR, Dec 26: Taking a serious note of the largescale hunting activities in Upper Siang district, the Anti Corruption and Social Welfare Activist Forum (ACSWAF) has demanded a ban on the sale of airguns to protect wildlife not only in Upper Siang but also all throughout the state.
In a press conference, President ACSWAF Amin Dangen while calling it a dangerous trend, said that birds and small animals remain the soft targets of people carrying such weapons and demanded a ban on sale of airguns, which are exempted from the ambit of arms licencing.
He also drew attention of the concerned authority, particularly the government schools lying defunct in Upper Siang and called for reviving them with better infrastructure and adequate teaching staff, so as to cater to the educational needs of the children of the district. Also informing that people of Upper Siang and in remote areas of the state are facing deep inconveniences due to low internet speed and weak signal, Dangen asked the concerned authorities to direct the service providers to improve their services. Proper investigation of all pending criminal and corruption cases in the state, blanket ban of all pesticides/herbs and tobacco products, immediate construction of all small dams in Upper Siang, installation of recycling unit to curb the menace of plastic and establishment of cold storage etc were the other demands placed by ACSWAF.
Meanwhile, in its 16-point memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the forum has also demanded that records of the rights of land, river and forest be given to the owners by including under Unclassified State Forest (USF) under protected forest of the state.
