ITANAGAR, Nov 11: The United Arunachal Indigenous People's Forum (UAIPF) on Wednesday appealed to the concerned authority to follow and maintain the policy of ‘one person, one vote’ by deleting duplicate voters from the voters list.
Addressing media persons at press club, President UAIPF, Laffe Paffa said, “The policy of 'one person, one vote and one value' must be followed for free and fair elections in the state. The existence of double votes leads to wrong choice of political leaders, and is also against the fundamental principle of one person, one vote”.
“A memorandum is submitted to Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Governor and Chief Electoral Officer regarding the double vote issue”, said president UAIPF.
Few voters in their home constituencies register their name into another without deleting/removing from the existing names causing the chances of double vote, he said urging the local leaders specially of rural areas to keep vigil on such duplicity and inform the concerned authority.
Laffe also said that the influx of voters from non-APST areas into the territory of various constituencies also create a negative impact on choosing wrong leader.
"Arunachal Pradesh is a tribal state where election provides a way for the tribal voters to choose their leaders by casting votes ensuring that the will of the tribal people is reflected in the elected candidate."
