Itanagar, Feb 7: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra has appointed the former Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Shantanu Dayal (retired) as the new Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, which was in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Dayal would be replacing Nipo Nabam, who had resigned from the post on 'moral grounds' in October last following the APPSC-conducted AE (Civil) Main examination’s paper leak scam.
The said recruitment examination for assistant engineer (civil) was conducted on August 27 and 28, 2022.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India read with clause 4 of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Regulation, 1988, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh is pleased to appoint Lt General Shantanu Dayal, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), as Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC),” stated a government notification issued on Tuesday.
He shall hold office for a term of six years from the date on which he enters upon the office, it said.
Moreover, the Governor has appointed three Members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). They are - Colonel (Retd) Koj Tari, Prof Pradip Lingfa and Rosy Taba.
The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission comprises of a Chairman and four Members as per the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Regulation, 1988 as amended from time to time.
The post of Chairman and three members had fallen vacant due to the resignation of the Chairman and Members from their respective posts in October 2022.
An advertisement against the vacant posts was issued on November 21, 2022, following which the Government received applications from 18 persons for the post of Chairman and 58 applications for the post of Member.
A high-level screening committee had in its meeting held on January 12, 2023, recommended a panel of names for consideration of the Government.
The newly appointed APPSC Chairman and Members will be administered the oath of office by the Governor soon, official sources said. (UNI)
