ZIRO, Jul 10: A meeting of District Steering Committee on Food Safety to review the status of implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in Lower Subansiri district was held today here at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Ziro under the chairmanship of Gombu Tsering, Additional Deputy Commissioner.
ADC in his address said that all stakeholders should work together to successfully implement the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) to safeguard the health of consumers and advocated for periodical monitoring by a team comprising magistrate and police officers in addition to those from concerned departments.
Earlier, District Medical Officer Dr. Tage Kanno informed that the numbers of Food Business Operators (FBOs) obtaining license and registering have increased in the past few years. In addition, food vendors during festivals and fairs are also registering themselves under the FSSA, he informed. Food Safety Officer Tarak Tatek briefed about the various provisions under the Act and urged the concerned department for cooperation in its effective implementation.
Meanwhile, it was decided that Food License would be made a mandatory pre-requisite for obtaining Trading License, Excise License or Drug License in the district. Representatives from the Old Ziro Market Welfare Committee, Hapoli Market Welfare Committee, Tax & Excise Department, Police and District Administration attended the meeting. DIPRO
