Itanagar, Jan 30: Regional Outreach Bureau today organized a day-long Orientation Workshop on Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 2.0 for the artists of registered troupes of Song & Drama Division and officials of Field Outreach Bureaus of Arunachal Region here in collaboration with the Immunization Wing of State Department of Health & Family Welfare.
Director ROB, Itanagar Dr. Keshavamurthy underlined the importance of traditional folk dance/drama and music as a medium of conveying important messages on government programmes and schemes in remote areas/villages in a simple and clear manner and thanked the State Immunization Officer Dr. Padung and his team for extending all logistical support for the campaign.
Through a Power Point Presentation Dr. Padung showed that immunization coverage in the state is 70 % and efforts are on to reach the 90% target by way of extensive campaign under IMI 2.0 which was rolled out on December 2, 2019. He sought help from the Song & Drama troupes in reaching out to the uncovered 30% by way of infotainment during the 3rd and 4th rounds of IMI 2.0 beginning February 3 and March 2 respectively. He also informed that nearly 61% of children are missing vaccination due to information gap and due to some misconception about the effects of immunization on body immunity and infertility. Allaying fears of parents about a few adverse effects of immunization like fever caused by DPT/Pentavalent vaccines, the State Immunization Officer urged people not to get misled by any media report or rumours.
Director, Family Welfare, Dr. Yirang lauded the innovative initiative of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting by using folk media to spread awareness and emphasized on the need to have short, clear and specific messages related to immunization. While assuring full support of his department at district level, Dr. Yirang advised the troupe leaders to develop good scripts based on information they have gathered about state and its demography before proceeding with their mission.
Regional Outreach Bureau, Itanagar and its Field Outreach Bureaus with support of District Immunization Officers will be organizing 10 field programmes in each of the 16 districts identified by the Ministry of H & FW, GoI for spreading awareness about vaccination against 12 dreaded diseases during February 2020.
