BOMDILA, Jul 13: A day long workshop on ‘Responsible tourism’ was held at ICAR Dirang on Friday by the Outlook group in collaboration with the state Department of Tourism.
The workshop aimed at enhancing responsible tourism and reimagining the future of the tourism industry in the state and empowering communities in Dirang on the aspect.
Renowned resource persons including Roxana Ashtari, Project Specialist from UNWTO, Spain, Dr. Tsewang Namgail, Director Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust, Jaya Jaitly, India’s best known craft revivalist and Founder, Dastkari Haat Samiti, Paras Loomba, Founder Global Himalayan Expedition, Manish Pande, Co-founder Village Ways, Raj Basu, Director, Help Tourism and Advisor for Rural Tourism & Home stays to GoAP, Kamal Medhi from WWF India and others dwelt extensively on their field of interest and research which facilitate all round growth of responsible tourism worldwide.
The resource persons observed that, tourism could be an asset to the state if its benefit is shared equitably with the locals while safeguarding the incredible biodiversity of the state.
Roxana Ashtari from the UNWTO concluded that, sustainability is the only way forward and that the future is a conscious travel.
The Outlook group endeavored at spreading awareness on sustainability, community –friendly tourism, empowering and training the locals while highlighting the immense potentials in the tourism sector and also inspiring them with wonderful examples from other parts of the country and the world.
Concluding the workshop, ADC KN Damo while impressing upon the need for cleanliness and a people-friendly atmosphere advocated for local touch in all tourism related activities in the area.
Among others, unemployed youths, aspiring entrepreneurs, home stay operators, hoteliers, tour operators, HoDs from Dirang Sub-division, NIMAS and officers from the tourism department attended the day long deliberation. DIPRO
