Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
MECHUKA, Jun 28: After emergence in West Siang, Kurung Kumey and East Kameng districts during the last couple of months, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has now invaded Shi-Yomi with more than 50 mithuns in Tato Circle already infected.
Minister, Animal Husbandry etc. Er. Tage Taki has instructed the district’s Veterinary and Animal Husbandry to view the development as an emergency, report daily cases and initiate measures for containing the spread of infection along with monitoring of medicine stocks so that there is no shortage. District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Jummo Ete and para vets are involved in the treatment. Reading the pattern of emergence in the state, it can be said that the FMD strikes with in-between intervals of a couple of years and besides mithuns, cows and other livestock are also affected, underscoring the need for a comprehensive vaccination drive as a permanent solution.
It can be recalled that East Kameng, Kurung Kumey and West Siang’s Aalo, Yomcha, Kamba and Darak have experienced the FMD recently. DIPRO
