TEZU, May 27: Incessant rain lashing Lohit district for the last few days has resulted in rivulets flowing above danger levels making human habitats, agricultural lands and cattle farms located close to the mighty Lohit river most vulnerable.
The District Disaster Management Task Force (DDMTF) is constantly maintaining vigil and on Wednesday rescued two more people from Dasnallah near Dimwe. These two men were marooned by flooded streams and had been without food and water for the last 3 days, DDMTF sources said. “We were unknown of their location and got the information from the inhabitants of the adjacent villages that they may be trapped near Dasnallah. Accordingly, with the help of technology, we traced them and despite shortage of rubber boats, a team of DDMTF headed by DDMO Damchen Norbu accomplished the rescue operation after four hours of tiring efforts,” DSP Thutan Jamba informed, adding that the two men had been sent to their homes in Tezu township.
Meanwhile, Lohit river has left a trail of destruction washing away five kutcha houses and two cows, although no loss of life has been reported.
