PASIGHAT, Feb 14: Despite fair and sunny weather, the Pasighat-Guwahati bound flight got delayed today due to heavy wind leaving passengers waiting for nearly 3 hours.
The winter wind of Pasighat and Siang valley area is a major concern for the people here at times, as it affects normal life and often said to be the major cause for fire accidents in Pasighat.
The Flybig flight which was supposed to take off at 8.40 am was delayed by around 3 hours as the crew waited for clearance from the Air Traffic Control.
An Alliance Air flight which was scheduled to land at Pasighat Airport at 9.30 am was seen circling in the air due to windy conditions before being diverted back to Tezpur, informed an official from Pasighat Airport.
Such situations of uncertainty in flight operations at Pasighat Airport is expected continue unless the Airport is shifted to a safer place from Pasighat to somewhere in between Pasighat and Ruksin or at Mebo area. More importantly, the Pasighat Airport needs to be separated from defence (IAF), the joint operation of flights by both civil aviation and defence is causing all the problems in most of time, said one of a security staff posted in Pasighat Airport.
The people of Pasighat and its nearby districts were happy to get the first flight connectivity in the state when its services started some 4 years back, but the dual use of the Airport both by civil and defence has turned out to be a setback for the people.
