PASIGHAT, Aug 1: The Ledum water supply project which caters to the drinking water needs of Bilat Circle, Sille-Oyan Circle and Ruksin ADC Hq in East Siang district under the 37th Assembly Constituency was badly damaged on the night of July 29 due to a sudden cloudburst at the catchment area leading to flash flood.
The potable drinking water supply of the above areas has been snapped and the residents of Bokrang area had a narrow escape, although valuable properties, livestock, plantations and many WRC fields at the downstream side have been washed away.
Assistant Engineer PHE & WS Department Er, Tadung Padung informed that despite the difficulties in reaching out to the intake point, retrieving of the displaced DI & GI pipe has been completed and manpower has been pressed in war footing to restore the normal water supply system. He appreciated MLA Ninong Ering for prompt assistance to the department by arranging 2 JCVs to speed up restoration work.
Executive Engineer PHED Er. Mijing Dupak informed that since the damage has been substantial the actual time needed for complete restoration is difficult to assess.
